Backstreet Boys is the eponymous debut studio album by Backstreet Boys, released on May 6, 1996, through Jive Records in Germany. It was a success, becoming one of the biggest debut albums ever, and contains a number of the group's most memorable singles. All of those singles were later released on the second self-titled debut in the United States in 1997, which compiled songs from this album, and their second international release Backstreet's Back. The album has sold over 38 million copies worldwide (14 million in the United States) and settled a record for the most successful debut album in history. The album was first released in Germany on May 6, 1996, where the group was based at the time. It was then released in Switzerland followed by Austria. It debuted at #1 in Germany, Norway, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Finland, Austria and Canada.

BACKSTREET BOYS is the U.S. self-titled debut album by the vocal-pop group Backstreet Boys.
The release of this album coincided with the release of their second international album BACKSTREET'S BACK.
Their international debut album released in 1996 was "also titled" BACKSTREET BOYS, but it was not released in the United States.
This second self-titled album was released only in the United States in 1997, making it their debut album in the country.
This album is a collection of tracks from Backstreet Boys' first and second international albums, Backstreet Boys (1996) and Backstreet's Back (1997) respectively.
Since this album and Backstreet's Back were released at the same time, both albums share the same cover, only with different titles.
It became one of the most successful debut albums of all time. The album peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and has been certified 14× Platinum (Diamond) by RIAA for sales to retailers.
This was also reported as the second highest seller in the past 14 years for Music Club sales back in 2003, selling 1.72 million units.
As of July 1, 2012, the album stands as the seventeenth best selling album in the US of the SoundScan era with 10,120,000 units sold.
