About
The first part of a two-part concept record, <i>Automata I</i> sees prog dervishes Between the Buried and Me weaving a futuristic tale about dreams broadcast for mass entertainment. The acoustic intro and soaring keyboard flourishes of “Condemned to the Gallows” explode across the stereo field into a dizzying series of guitar workouts peppered with both clean and harsh vocals. Meanwhile, “House Organ,” “Millions,” and sprawling closer “Blot” fuse breezy melodic passages with angular, atonal riffs and a captivating array of musical ideas.
