"Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is a song by the Australian rock band Jet, featured on their 2003 album Get Born. It was the first single from the album, released in 2003 in Australia and the UK, and in 2004 in the United State. The song is often cited for similarities to Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" and The White Stripes's "Screwdriver". However, the beat has been found to have been common in numerous 60s' Motown song, including "I'm Ready For Love" by Martha And The Vandellas and "You Can't Hurry Love" by The Supreme. Charts The song peaked at #20 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart, while in the UK Singles Chart it first appeared on the charts at #23. The single was re-released in the UK in 2004, after it was featured on advertisements for the Apple iPod, and this time reached #16 on the chart. It also gave the band success in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, peaking at #29. The song also reached #1 on Australian youth radio station Triple J's Hottest 100 in 2003. Use in other media The song has been featured in numerous other media, including the feature films EuroTrip (2004), The Longest Yard (2005), Flushed Away (2006), The Holiday (2006) and What Happens in Vegas; episodes of the television shows Scrub, My Name Is Earl, One Tree Hill, Zoey 101, Tru Calling; and appeared as a playable track in video games Rock Band, SingStar Rocks!, Guitar Hero: On Tour, Rock Revolution, Madden NFL 2004, Taiko Drum Master and as downloadable content in Samba de Amigo for Wii. (or Taiko No Tatsujin). It was also used in advertisements for Apple Inc.'s iPod and Vodafone's Live! range. Wrestler, Victoria Crawford used "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" as her entrance theme in Ohio Valley Wrestling. It was also used in Budweiser and Blue1 commercial. It is also the opening theme for the British stand-up comedy programme Live at the Apollo.
