Anthology: The Sounds of Science is the first Beastie Boys anthology composed of greatest hits, B-sides, and previously unreleased tracks. The retail release comes with a tri-fold sleeve that displays the majority of the band's album covers, as well as a booklet of liner notes. The title of the anthology is from the song of the same name, featured on their second album, Paul's Boutique.

Track 1-5 was a B-side for a single off Check Your Head. The name "Skills To Pay The Bills" was originally a name of a "Pass The Mic" remix.
Track 1-7 from Aglio E Olio EP.
Track 1-13 thanks to Johnny Hammond and for use of "Big Sur Suite (opens in a new tab)"
Track 1-14 music came from a tape of jamming at Cole Practice Space.
Track 2-11 takes its name after Willie Bobo's "Fried Neckbones (opens in a new tab)".
