About

Angles Without Edges is the debut studio album by Yesterdays New Quintet, a jazz project conceived by American hip hop producer Madlib (Otis Jackson Jr.) as a fictional ensemble featuring five virtual musicians. The project originated in 2000 as part of Madlib's exploration into jazz revivalism, positioning Yesterdays New Quintet as a modern take on 1960s post-bop quintets while incorporating electronic and downtempo elements to bridge jazz and hip-hop genres. Released on September 11, 2001, by Stones Throw Records, the album consists of 19 instrumental tracks blending jazz improvisation with hip-hop production techniques, including sampled drums, Fender Rhodes keyboards, vibraphone, and wah-wah guitar effects, all performed and arranged solely by Madlib.
