Ancient Black Earth is a seminal EP by American death metal band Sadistic Intent, originally released in 1997 through their own label, Dark Realm Record. This release is renowned for its authentic old-school death metal sound, drawing heavy influence from late '80s and early '90s acts like Morbid Angel, Possessed, and Slayer. Funerals Obscure The EP was initially intended as a promotional demo but was released as a limited edition of 500 hand-numbered copies due to high demand and to dispel rumors of the band's disbandment . It was recorded and mixed in Winter 1997 at Simon's Ghost Studios in Los Angele, California . 2022 25th Anniversary Reissue In 2022, Iron Pegasus Records and Dark Realm Records reissued "Ancient Black Earth" as a special 25th Anniversary edition. This reissue includes: Original Tracks: The three songs from the 1997 EP. Bonus Tracks: Eternal Darkness (recorded in the late '90s with vocals added in 2022). Lurking Terror (recorded in 1999 with vocals added in 2022). Cover Songs: Return to the Eve (Celtic Frost cover). Necrophiliac (Slayer cover). The Exorcist (Possessed cover featuring Jeff Becerra on vocals). The reissue is available in various vinyl format, including black, clear, red/black marble, grey/black marble, and picture disc, all housed in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes by guitarist Rick Cortez .
