"Agent Orange" is the third studio album by German thrash metal band Sodom, released on 1 June 1989 through SPV/Steamhammer. It was the band's last album featuring guitarist Frank Blackfire before his departure to Kreator; he later returned to Sodom in 2018. The album's lyrics focus primarily on themes related to the Vietnam War, including references to the AC-47 ground-attack aircraft and the chemical defoliant Agent Orange, from which the album takes its title. "Agent Orange" was the band's first release to enter the German album chart, reaching number 36, and sold approximately 100,000 copies in Germany. The song "Ausgebombt" was also released on the EP "Ausgebombt" in a version featuring German-language lyric. In March 2010, the album was reissued in digipak format with bonus track, lyric, and archival photographs included in the liner note. The album has frequently been cited as an influential and notable release within the thrash metal genre. Its musical style has been described as combining elements of thrash metal and death metal, while also incorporating influences from hardcore punk, particularly the band Discharge. Compared to its predecessor, "Persecution Mania", the production of "Agent Orange" has been described as fuller and heavier. Critics have also noted the album's cohesive structure and militaristic atmosphere. The cover artwork has received attention for its apocalyptic imagery. The liner notes include the dedication: "This album is dedicated to all people - soldiers and civilians - who died by senseless aggressions of wars all over the world." "Agent Orange" received positive critical reception. In 2005, it was ranked number 299 in Rock Hard magazine's list "The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time". In 2017, Rolling Stone placed it at number 63 on its list of "The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time". .
