About
This set from early in his career finds Sinatra in classic form. Gordon Jenkins' arrangements and The Ralph Brewster Singers' vocal accompaniment privilege pep, so Sinatra creates just the right amount of tension by hanging back a bit. He indulges in coolly strolling phrasing during “Jingle Bells,” and he puts some sly humor into “Mistletoe and Holly.” Elsewhere, it’s a blast to hear Sinatra train his vibrato on swing-free readings of carols; his stirring performance on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” also thrills.

Sinatra's 8th album for Capitol Records, 14th studio album overall, and second Christmas-themed album. Recorded in Los Angeles, California, on July 10, 16 and 17, 1957. Recorded in mono only, although later issued in reprocessed "duophonic" versions. Originally released in the U.S. on September 30, 1957. Reissued with different title and cover artwork in 1965 as "The Sinatra Christmas Album," though some reissues retained the original title on the labels.
